a person named
susumu hirasawa is a japanese musician who was born in 1954. an eclectic musician and composer, he has also been a 3d modeling artist, activist and writer of short fiction.
his primary focus is electronic music but he has dabbled with many other music genres, creating songs unlike anything else. in english-speaking circles, he can be most often compared to brian eno in his approach to music.
he originally was in a progressive rock band called mandrake that formed in 1973, when hirasawa was still a high school student. in japan he is most well-known for being the leader and later main creative force behind the electronic band p-model, which was active from 1979 to 1988. internationally, he is best known for creating the music behind the first season of berserk in 1997.
since 1994 he has been incorporating the ideas and themes behind his albums into what he calls interactive live shows, concerts that tell stories between each song via the use of projectors and cgi and give audiences the power to change the outcome of the story based on certain factors (cheering, putting objects in front of lasers, using cell phones, etc.)
this page is not by any means an all-encompassing view on hirasawa's life and career. compiling more than 50 years of music and stories into a few web pages is much more than what i'm able to do.
